It is that time of year again for the 2009 Virginia PKU Walk-A-Thon.

WALK FOR PKU RESEARCH SPONSORED BY RYAN’S PKU FOUNDATION OF VIRGINIA

Virginia PKU Walk



When:        Saturday, May 9, 2009 from 10:30 am until 2:00 pm
Where:        Mount. Trashmore, Virginia Beach, Virginia

Schedule:

  • 10:30-11:30am Check in & turn in donations
  • 12:00-1:00pm  Walk for Research
  • 12:30-1:00pm  Kids Activities, Low Protein Vendors available, Low Protein Snack
  • 1:00-1:40pm  Guest Speaker(s)

  • 1:30-2:00pm   Prizes awarded/raffle

What is PKU?
 

Phenylketonuria or PKU is an inherited metabolic disorder in which the individual with the disorder is unable to produce a specific enzyme for digestion of the Amino Acid Phenylalanine. This causes a build up in the body which can result in severe mental retardation.
